Garland’s Task Force: Big Promises, Small Results

Folks, remember when the Department of Justice launched its Election Threats Task Force back in 2021? It was supposed to be this big shield protecting our election workers from all those nasty threats. Well, here we are, years later, and what do we have to show for it? A whopping 20 people charged out of 2,000 reported threats. That’s right, less than 1% success rate. Is this really the best our tax dollars can buy?

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But they’re trying their best!” Well, let me tell you, their best isn’t cutting it. Our hardworking election officials are out there on the front lines, facing threats and harassment, and this task force is about as effective as a screen door on a submarine.

The First Amendment Conundrum

Now, here’s where it gets tricky. The DOJ claims they’re having a hard time figuring out what’s a “true threat” and what’s just people exercising their First Amendment rights. Well, isn’t that convenient? It’s like they’re saying, “We’d love to help, but our hands are tied!” Meanwhile, 40% of local election officials reported threats in 2024. That’s nearly half of the folks running our elections feeling scared just for doing their jobs!

Well, isn’t that just dandy? So, we’re supposed to sit back and watch as our election workers get bombarded with “offensive” messages, and the DOJ shrugs it off as free speech? Come on, folks. There’s a big difference between expressing your opinion and making someone fear for their safety.

The Disillusionment of Our Election Officials

You know what’s really heartbreaking? Our election officials, the very people ensuring our votes count, are feeling abandoned. Many have even stopped reporting threats because they think it’s pointless. Can you blame them? When 45% of threats go unreported, it’s clear that faith in the system is crumbling faster than a sandcastle at high tide.

“I will reiterate again today, these cases are a warning if you threaten to harm or kill an election worker or official or volunteer, the Justice Department will find you and we will hold you accountable,” Garland said.

Strong words, Mr. Garland. But actions speak louder than words, and right now, your actions are whispering at best. Our election workers need more than just tough talk; they need real protection and support.

A Call for Real Action

Look, folks, we all want free and fair elections. That’s the cornerstone of our democracy. But how can we expect our elections to be fair when the people running them are under constant threat? It’s time for the DOJ to step up and show some real results. We need transparency, we need action, and we need it now.

Don’t go thinking left-wing extremists aren’t intimidating election workers. They are.
