A British photographer, aged 67, tragically collapsed and died on October 11 while hiking at the Vouraikos Gorge in Kalavryta, Greece. The photographer, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was with a group of British and German photographers hoping to capture images of fighter jets flying overhead as part of NATO’s Ramstein Flag exercise.

The group had gathered early in the morning at the scenic location to photograph the jets on the final day of the military drills. Around 8:30 a.m., the photographer collapsed after reportedly losing consciousness. His friends immediately called emergency services and attempted to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful.

Local authorities, including police, the fire department, and ambulance teams, responded to the scene. The man was found unconscious near the vineyards on the outskirts of Diakopto and was transported to Kalavryta Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Initial reports from local media suggest that the photographer may have been suffering from an illness, although the exact cause of death is still under investigation.

The NATO exercise, involving 140 fighter jets from 13 allied nations, had begun on September 30 and was set to conclude today, October 11. Photographers were invited to attend and document the event on October 1 and 8. The military exercise, Ramstein Flag 24, focuses on integrated air and missile defense and features participation from countries including the U.K., U.S., Greece, and several other NATO allies.

Firefighters from the local department shared news of the incident on social media, confirming that the man had been found unconscious near a difficult-to-access area of the Mega Cave of Kalavryta, with seven firefighters and two vehicles dispatched to assist. The sudden passing of the photographer has shocked those in attendance, as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances leading to his death.
